What is Virechana ?
Virechana is a purificaton treatment and it cleanses the small intestine and the organs, which are Pitta dominant. It is the method of cleaning and evacuation of the bowels through the use of purgative medicines.
What is Virechana procedure ?
This is usually done after proper snehapaana and three days of fomentation. Medicine shall be in any form, either liquid or powder or oil or decoction and should be taken on an empty stomach. After taking the medicine the patient should drink hot water frequently till bowel movements start. Except the hot water no other food should be taken. The patient is given plenty of water or natural fluids by mouth in order to avoid post Virechana dehydration.
Excess pitta is secreted and accumulated in the gall bladder, liver and small intestine and thus leads to rashes, skin inflammation, acne, chronic attacks of fever, biliary vomiting, nausea and jaundice.
