Tobacco Free Kerala Tourism campaign for a healthier future

To create awareness among youth that Tobacco is dangerous to Health, ‘ Tobacco Free Kerala Tourism ‘ campaign launched by Health Minister Adoor Prakash. With a view to take Kerala towards a healthier future Regional Cancer Centre here has taken the leadership to bring together like-minded organizations for a campaign called Tobacco Free Kerala.

Tobacco Free Kerala is a campaign intended at controlling tobacco use in the state, especially among the youth, by a coalition of the same name. The members of the coalition are RCC, Malabar Cancer Centre, Voice of Tobacco Victims, Kerala Voluntary Health Services and MD-Niche, which is the media sensitization arm of the campaign. Mr Prakash is the Chairman of the coalition and Dr Sebastian is the Vice-Chairman. The campaign comes in the wake of research reports and studies on the growing incidence of tobacco use in Kerala.

Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act 2003 prohibits the sale of tobacco products within a radius of 100 yards of an educational institution. And now UDF government that extended this ban area to 400 metres from the earlier figure of 100 meters.
