Thriruvananthapuram city tour Nagara Darsan by KTDC
Kerala Tourism Development Corporation’s newly introduced Thriuvananthapuram city tour ‘Nagara Darsan’ is aimed at introducing the traveler to the many sights and sounds of the beautiful capital city. Two five and a half hour-long trips offered by KTDC Resorts and Hotels in the Nagara Darsan city tour package stops over at the important land marks of the city. Prominent cultural and historical monument and destinations like, Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Kuthiramalika Palace, Shanghumugham Beach, Veli Tourist Village, Museum, Zoo and Art Gallery are the stopover points in the trip.
Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, noted for its Dravidian architectural styles, is one of the 108 sacred Lord Vishnu temples in India. Located close to the temple, Kuthiramalika or Puthenmalika Palace was built by the King Swathi Thirunal Balaram Varma, the erstwhile King of Travancore. The palace’s museum has paintings and priceless collections of the royal family. Shanghumugham Beach is the favorite destination of the sunset watchers. The popular picnic spot, Veli Tourist Village is a place offering boating facilities in the Veli Lake. The 19th century Napier Palace and its surrounding places and buildings house the museum, zoo and art gallery. The Palace is built in the Indo-Saracenic style and has a rare collection of archeological and historical artifacts, the art gallery exhibits the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma and others and the Zoological Park, established in 1859, is one of the first zoos in India.
The half day’ Nagara Darsan’ in A/C coaches costs Rs.200 per person. The forenoon tour starts 7.30 am and ends at 01.00pm at the museum compound. And the one in the afternoon starts at 1.30pm and finishes at 07.00pm at the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple. Nagara Darsan takes the following route: starting at the Tourist Reception Centre-Kowdiar Palace-Raj Bhavan-Bishop House-Kanakakkunnu Palace-state Central Library-Palayam Mosque-Ganapathi Temple-Connemara Market-Victoria Jubilee Town Hall-Kerala University Campus-Secretariat-Pazhavangadi Ganapathi Temple-Vettimurich Kotta Shopping Area-Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple-Puthenmalika Palace-Shanghumugham Beach-Mermaid Statue-Veli Tourist Village-Legislative Assembly-Mascot Hotel-Museum,Zoo and Art Gallery-Directorate of Tourism and Information Centre.
Other tours conducted by KTDC are the one-day trip to Kanyakumari and a Pamba trip (on first day of the Malayalam month)
