Are we on the right tracks in terms meeting the milestone?
Land development and piling are going on as we speak. The cloakroom construction has started and expected to complete in 3 months. By august 2011, a pilot project will be commissioned with more than 100 rooms.
What are specialty and the significance of the resort?
It’s a first of its kind, a model resort incorporating all aspect of responsible tourism-economic, social and environment. For economic side-when we develop we include local community so that the benefits circulate down. When we started this project the place was like an isolated village with 300 plus families and with no roads. Because of our resort a road has been constructed in a shared land and the local community is now connected with other parts of the area by road. With 156 rooms and all facilities, a resort of this kind can be helpful to local community. We are motivating local people to cultivate vegetable, fish and other things and we can procure these things for the resorts instead of buying from outside states. This way we are making this resort a truly model resort to enhance social, economic and environment standards.
The site has unique feature of both beach and backwater frontage. It has 400 meters of beach and 700 meters of backwater frontage with a scenic lush green of coconut palms. The accommodation units are mostly single storied cottages.
What are the other facilities planned in the resort?
The resort will be equipped with Library, Money Exchange/ ATM, Travel Desk, Internet Centre with WiFi access, Health club and Beauty salon, Handicraft Village, kids club, Facilities for differently abled, amphitheatre and Open air auditoriums, Water Sports Activities, Canal Boating and Walking & jogging trails.
What are the future plans of GGL?
GGL is special purpose vehicle set up only for Bakel resort project. A series of many projects have initially envisaged being the Bakel as the first one. Plans for other phases are yet to be finalized. These projects will cover areas from south to north of Kerala including Trivandrum, Kumarakom, cochin, Wayanad, Kasargod etc.
