Location

Vayalar is a historical place, located 5 km north of Cherthala, in Alappuzha District bounded on the east by the Vayalar kayal which is a part of the famous Vembanad backwaters. Punnapra-Vayalar struggle of 1946 against Sir C P Ramaswamy Iyer, Diwan of Tranvacore, took place here. The Vayalar road connecting Vayalar with Cherthala is its life line. Vayalar is connected to NH 47 by another road. The major livelihood of people here is coir making, fishing and shrimp farming.
