Day 1- 2
On arrival at the Cochin airport you will be picked-up from the airport to destination Munnar. A renowned hill station located in the Western Ghats and is about 5000 feet above sea level. Rated as one of the best hill stations in Kerala and is the prime centre of Kerala’s tea industry. The name ‘Munnar’ means three rivers in Malayalam and is located at the convergence of 3 mountain streams – Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. The meeting place of the 3 streams is the heart of the town and these streams satisfy all water requirements of settlers and visitors. Munnar topography consists of lakes, forests and several tea estates. The highest peak in South India called Anaimudi (2695m/8883 ft.) is nearby. During the British rule, Munnar was the favorite of the British people, it was government’s summer resort in the south and for centuries it remained the dearest summer place of the European sellers.
Important sightseeing attractions of Munnar are Kundale Tea Plantation, The High Range Club, Eravikulam National Park, Top Station, Mattuppetty, Devikulam, Rajmalai, Chithirapuram, Marayoor, Pallivasal/Pothamedu etc.
Day 3
Kumarakom, known as the queen of Vembanad, is a popular resort destination, where you can check in to houseboats. This is a tiny village on the rim of Vembanad Lake, practically unknown, till the arrival of Henry Baker, who purchased land from the erstwhile King of Travancore to build himself a grand home. Now Kumarakom is a labyrinth of modern resorts and heritage-homes-cum-hotels spilling over the island’s bank. A must-visit place is Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary consisting of numerous beautiful rivulets and waterways. Inside the sanctuary you would see the Vembanad Lake surrounded by the mangrove forests and paddy fields is one of the best places for bird viewing. There is a great number of rare feathered species along with a wonderful climate making it a favorite picnic spot. Kumarakom being a famous backwater destination, makes it an apt place to indulge houseboat cruise, which should not be missed by visitors as it is a rare experience you can get only in Kerala. To enjoy bird watching in the park, take a boat cruise through Vembanad Lake. Those who crave for wildlife photography visit Pathiramanal which is a small island on the lake. If you go little ahead of Kumarkom you will come across backwater town of Kottayam full of rubber plantations and majestic old churches.
