Iringal art & craft village venue for Sargaalaya Mela 2011, for the promotion of traditional art and craft

Sargaalaya, the art & craft village at Iringal near Vadakara, Kozhikode is designed by the Kerala Tourism Department as an initiative to put Kerala’s traditional arts & crafts on the tourism trail. Sargaalaya is set upon 20 acres of land on the banks of the Moorad River. Sargalaya Mela 2011, first and largest of its kind in Kerala,  will be held during August 25th,2011 to September 11th, 2011 at Iringal art & craft Village. (more…)

Beypore Beach

Beypore is 10 km south of Kozhikode.   Beypore is located at the mouth of the Chaliyar River.  Beypore was one of the prominent ports and a maritime trading centre of ancient Kerala.It is known for its boat building yard, famous for the construction of the Uru (Arabian trading vessel), a tradition that goes back almost 1500 years.

Kappad Beach

Kappad is 16 km from Kozhikode.  Kappad beach is very famous and historically significant because of the fact that the world famous explorer Vasco da Gama set foot first on India with a team of 170 men in three vessels. Vasco da Gama landed on the Kappad beach on 27th of May 1498. The rock-studded beach is locally known as Kappakadavu.

Kozhikode Beach

Beypore Kerala Handicraft village

Kerala Handicraft tourism heritage villages will be set up at Beypore which is famous for making dhows(‘uru or Arabian trading vessel). The village will be set up by the Beypore Development Mission with the help of State Industries Department. Visit Kerala Initiative

Kerala Tourism recently initiated a new tourism-boosting campaign called ‘Keralam Kanaam’ in order to popularize Kerala’s destinations within Kerala. The campaign launched as part of the ‘Visit Kerala’ initiative, was kicked off by Mr.Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism. The Minister released the campaign logo at the renovated Tourist Facilitation Centre at the Park View campus of Kerala Tourism at Thiruvananthapuram last month. (more…)

Kochi – City of Charm

IRCTC’s Bharath Darshan

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) offers 14 dates Bharath Darshan Trip. Tourist can avail of the services of the Bharat Darshan train operated IRCTC. Bekal Beach Camp beckon tourist

‘Beach Camp’, the first property of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) Hotels and Resorts in Bekal was inaugurated by Mr Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism on July 3. The Beach Camp, with 30 cottages, will come up on two hectares of land situated between the Bekal beach park and the tsunami park. The State owned Bekal Resorts Development Corporation has leased out the land for 30 years. Beach Camp will be the first property of the KTDC in the Malabar region and its 32nd resort. (more…)

Kunhali Marikkar Memorial Museum

Museum of Ethnology, Kozhikode

Museum of  Ethnology  Kerala institute for Research, Training and Development Studies of scheduled castes and tribes was started in 1972. The ethnological museum here houses a large collection of artifacts, costumes, jewelers, household articles, nets and traps, wood carvings, agriculture tools, musical instruments and ceremonial paraphernalia of all the tribal communities in Kerala. An attraction of this museum is that there is a collection of live size figures of different tribes along with their huts and other implements connected with their life. These include different communities from pure hunters to agriculture settlers. The library here has a good collection of book on Anthropology and Sociology. (more…)

Teak Museum, Nilambur

Teak museum situated at Nilambur, the first of its kind in the world.  The teak museum is exclusively devoted to display of scientific information and related exhibits on various aspects of teak. Detailed information on root system, flower, seed, germination methods, pests, diseases, physiological disorders etc is exhibited. A special attraction in the display is the collection of over 300 butterflies, moths and insects connected with teak plantations. Animals and plants associated with teak are also displayed here.
