C N Karunakaran – doyen of art

C N Karunakaran, who was Chairman of  Kerala Lalitakala Academy and also received Raja Ravi Varma Puraskaram – 2009 ‘ instituted by the Kerala State government. He is no stranger to those in the field of art or outside, as his very name speaks of excellence.  His paintings are symbolic with distinct technique in acrylic. He had  set up ‘Chitrakootam’, the first private art gallery of  Kerala State.  C. B D Dethan, Kerala

B D Dethan is one of the well known artists in Kerala. He is also about re-creation, transforming existing visuals into unique pieces of art. Dethan is a wizard who in his drawings has captured and imprisoned the wildest of impulses and urges.

B D Dethan was born on November15, 1946 in Trivandrum. He obtained a diploma in painting from the government School of Arts. Dethan worked as instructor in Jawahar Balbhavan, Trivandrum from 1970-84. He was also served as artist in the State Town planning Department, Museum, Art Director in the State Institute of Encyclopedia Publications ( 1977-2001), has been a member of the Kerala Lalithakala Academy, Board of Studies( Fine Arts ), Kerala University, and conducted several one-man shows and group exhibitions in Trivandrum, Kochi, Banglore and New Delhi. Some of the places that his works are displayed are the National Museum of Modern Art Gallery, Delhi, Kendra Lalitha Kala Academy, Delhi, Kerala Lalitha Kala Academy, Thrissur and Raj Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram.

His paintings have been bought by private collectors from many parts of the world. The series `Kali ‘ was published in the format of a book with a preface by Dr. Ayyappa Panicker, and with opinions of eminent personalities such as Sugatha Kumari, M. T. Vasudevan Nair, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Malayatoor Ramakrishnan among others.

Dethan doesn’t give a title to any of his paintings. He believes that a title is just a method to give the creation, an identity. An onlooker’s take on the picture should not be chained down by a title or a caption. Freedom of enjoyment and understanding the theme should rest with anyone who looks at an artist’s creation. This visual artist who doesn’t believe in following a particular school of methods or techniques.

Vyttila Mobility Hub function from 1st June, 2011

Vyttila Mobility Hub, Kerala will start function from June 1st, 2011 and is the long term solution for Kochi’s transporting problems.  In the first phase, the KSRTC bus service will start from and end at Vytila with bus services carried out by Muvattupuzha and Vaikom. Besides these, buses like Vytila-Vytila circular low floor will also start their services from the hub. The first phase of the prestigious Vyttila Mobility Hub project was inaugurated on Saturday,Feb 26th,2011. Well-connected with all the city routes, the mobility hub will serve as a meeting point for all inter-city and intra-city buses. In the first phase, facilities will be provided for parking 65 buses along 260 metres space. (more…)
