Kerala Government requested the concept of ‘visa on arrival’ facility for foreign tourists with Union Government at least in one airport in an effort to promote tourism. Kerala government has given its approval for a Responsible Tourism classification system introduced by Kerala Tourism based on the principles of Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria of UN. The new classification system will be implemented in co- ordination with the private and public sector and will help significantly to raise the overall development of the state. As part of promoting ‘fisheries tourism’, Kerala Government has initiated a proposal to set up a Rs350 crore Oceanarium in Kochi, the country’s first, to enable a thrilling experience for people and researchers to study marine species, including large ones like whales and sharks, and habitat at a closer level. This oceanarium project, which is slated to come up on 40 acres of land along the coast at Puthuvypeen in the city. (more…)
