Folklore Museum
The folklore museum exhibits antiques, traditional household and commercial articles, measuring instruments, agriculture implements etc. of Kerala. The main feature of this museum is a Theyyam Gallery, where costumes, ornaments, headgears, weapons and photographs of various Theyyam (a ritualistic performing folk art of North Malabar) characters are displayed. Live size figures of some Theyyam characters are also displayed here. The Padayani gallery displays the costumes, face masks and weapons of patayani, a popular ritual folk art performed in the Bhadrakali temples in Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts. The museum functions in a 90 year old traditional Nalukettu, a typical traditional Kerala household owned by the Chiralkkal Royal family. Facing the Nalukettu is a large man made pond-chira,with an area of about 14 acres, which is a wonder in its own. (more…)
