At the beginning of the film, Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism, Government of Kerala is seen explaining the objectives of the BRDC-promotion of hitherto unidentified destinations in the North Kerala, giving due weight to regional development, employment and protection of environment.

The film offers a glimpse of Bekal’s prominent attractions like the Bekal Beach Park, Kappil Beach, Pallikara Beach and the Valiyaparambu backwater country where there are no roads and one can get around only in boats. The lilting background score of the Kerala boatman songs provide the perfect setting for the exquisite rustic scenery. Mussel and oyster farming provide employment for many, especially the self help Kudumbasree women groups.

The scene moves on to Ediyalacaud with its mystical swamp forest and migratory bird population. The film narrates the legend of the Ananthapuram Temple with its name crocodile, Nithyananda Ashramam, Chandragiri River and the 17th century. Chandragiri Fort and Hosdurg Fort. Beautifully captured on camera is Ranipuram, Ooty of Malabar, where the forests in the high ranges merge with the neighboring state of Karnataka. Entrancing glimpses of the Madiyankulom Temple with its intricate wood carvings and murals follow.

In the final stages, the documentary describes the investment options and explains the crux of BRDC’s policy which is development of the tourism potential of Bekal without compromising on environmental factors, provision of employment to the local population, preservation and restoration of fort, temples, mosques and monuments, and checking the commercialization of cultural values and art forms. Major investors in the region like MS.Jyotsna Suri, Chairperson, Bharat Hotels Ltd, Mr. Dinesh Khanna, Executive Director, Khanna Hotels Ltd and Mr.E.M. Najeeb, chairman, Green Gateway India appear on screen to explain their property USPs and development plans, which in itself is an encouragement to potential entrepreneurs.

With good direction, camera work, script and narration, the film succeeds in beckoning both traveller and investor to Bekal, the land of lakes and fortresses.
