Symposium on tourism at Hotel Mascot, Thiruvanathapuram

A three day Symposium on Tourism and livelihood  will be held during May 31st, 2011 – June 2nd, 2011 at Hotel Mascot, Thiruvananthapuram. It is being organized by Kerala Tourism and Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS) in association with the International Centre for Responsible Tourism (ICRT) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The Symposium would deliberate and mainly focus on how tourism provide livelihood to local communities. It will discuss how tourism plays as an important contributor to economic growth and how it eases the poverty of rural community. Kerala tourism has brought many positive changes in the livelihood of local community.

The conference would discuss topics such as contributions to local economy, employment generation, and noticeable impact on poverty reduction and capacity building. A panel will discuss the roles and responsibilities of the tourism industry, local self – governments, NGOs and self-help groups.

Industry stakeholders, policy-makers, elected representatives, academicians, and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs)

The seminar will dwell on Kerala tourism’s ‘Responsible Tourism’ initiatives. A public, which is environmentally conscious and educated about the need for sustainable development, is essential for achieving the goal for Sustainable tourism. Kerala tourism with its eco friendly tourism guidelines promotes sustainable tourism in Kerala. By following eco friendly practices, it neither degrades nor modify the existing Environment, promotes sustainable tourism in Kerala.
