Punarnava Ayurveda Hospital, Kochi an Ayurveda Hospital in Kerala takes the initiative to spread awareness about genuine and traditional treatments and methods in Ayurveda through its Continuing Aturveda Awareness Program (CAAP). Twenty students from USA visited Punarnava recently as a part of CAAP and learned and experienced the benefits of monsoon Ayurvedic treatment. They witnessed a live demonstration of Karkidaka Kanji preparation. Dr.A.M. Anwar, Chairman and Managing Director, Punarnava Ayurvedic Hospital made a presentation on the subject “Ayurvedic Approach to Life Style Disorders”. Dr.Jaseela Anwar, Medical Director, Dr.B.Rajeeve, Mr.Mathew Joseph, Director, Marketing, Mountdale Holidays and Mr. Ravi Varma, General Manager, Punarnava also spoke on the occasion.

The Karkitaka Chikistsa or monsoon treatment is conducted in accordance with tradition at Punarnava. Treatments are generally for seven or fourteen days, but can even go on for up to 40 days. Accordance to Ayurveda, monsoon ideal time to flush out all impurities and to restore the tridoshas (Vatha, Pitha and Kapha) to balance state. Karkidaka Kanji a con coction of 40 herds is a specially medicated diet recommended for enchanting the metabolism. The herds are boiled in coconut milk or in cow’s milk with a little salt, coconut and jaggery. Karkidaka Kanji is taken early morning or mid-evening.
