National Mango festival in Thiruvananthapuram

The State Horticulture Mission-Kerala and the Mango Growers’ Association are jointly hosting a 10 day long National Mango Festival on the Kanakakkunnu grounds, Thiruvananthapuram from June 16 to 26, 2011. Different mouth watering mango varieties are being exhibited in the festival. Kerala Agriculture Minister K.P. Mohanan inaugurated the mango festival.

The regal way of celebrating this ‘king of all fruits’ is surely through a Mango Festival.  The purpose of organising such festival is to boost production of mangoes The national mango festival in Thiruvananthapuram is a tribute to the popularity and the passion which almost everyone shares for these delicious fruits. It is time for the Mango buffs to rejoice.

Mango growers from all over India get together at one place giving a chance to public to taste the varieties of mangoes.

It is also an attempt to bring buyers and sellers on a single platform. The idea is to give exposure to the domestic mango industry and exporters, helps to give more information to farmers. Keeping in tune with the Indian tradition wherein the mango is seen as a community fruit, Kerala is also ready to celebrate National Mango festivalwith great zeal involving large numbers of people.

India alone cultivates over 1,000 varieties of the fruit and the acreage under mango cultivation is in an area of 2.5 million hectares. Several local varieties of mangoes, such as Neelam, Varikka, Kalapady, Sindooram, and Chandrakaran, and those grown in other parts of the country, such as Jahangir, Daseri, Salem, and Banglora, to name a few, will be on show at the festival.

People visiting the Mango Festival will get awe-struck by the sweet taste of an infinite range of mangoes. Apart from savoring the unparalleled taste of the fruit visitors can also get high quality mango saplings in this festival.
