Munnar
Munnar – breathtakingly beautiful – a heaven of peace and tranquility is an ideal tourist destination in God’s own country. Located 1600 m above sea level, this hill station was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India.
Munnar is a premium hillstation paradise situated at the confluence of three mountain streams – Muthirapuzza, Nallathanni, Kundala. Sprawling tea plantations, picture booktowns, winding lanes, trekking and holiday facilities make Munnar a unique experience.
Munnar was once a sleepy little hamlet, until Scottish planters discovered it. Later the British who ruled India, developed it more into one of southern India’s most important centres for the cultivation of tea, coffee and spices. They made it their summer hideout because of the cooler climate and the mesmerizing mountain scenery.
Situated at an altitude of 1600 m above sea level, its bracing climate with the laidback atmosphere and its delightfully refreshing colonial air makes Munnar the most sought-after destinations. Munnar is sometimes called the ‘Switzerland of India’.

Munnar also has the highest peak in South India – Anamudi, which towers over 2695 m. Anamudi is an ideal spot for trekking. The high ranges of Munnar were earlier known as Kannan Devan Hills, Tata Tea – Kannan Devan Tea Plantations in Munnar are world renowned. The main cultivation crops in Munnar are Tea and Coffee .
Among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands in Munnar is the Neelakurinji. This flower which bathes the hills in the blue every twelve years, will bloom next in 2006 AD.

Mattupetty
Mattupetty, is located about 13 km from Munnar Town. Mattupetty is known for its storage masonry dam and the lake, which offers boat rides, enabling one to enjoy the surrounding hills and landscape. Mattupetty’s fame is also attributed to the dairy farm run by the Indo-Swiss Livestock Project, where one would come across different high yielding breeds of cows
Marayoor
Marayoor is the only place in Kerala with a natural growth of sandalwood trees. The sandalwood factory run by the Forest Department is of tourist interest. A reduced amount of rainfall is ideally suited for the abundant growth of best sandalwood trees.
Eravikulam National Park
A sanctuary for the endangered mountain goat of South India, the Nilgiri Tahr ( Hemitragus hylocrious), the Eravikulam National Park stands out for the stark beauty of its rolling grasslands and sholas, spread over 97 sq km in the Rajamalai hills.
Rajamala
Rajamala is the natural habitat of Nilgiri Tahr. Half the world population of this rare mountain goat is found here, which is fast becoming extinct.
Top station
Top Station, which is about 27 km from Munnar is at a height of 1900 m above sea level. Travelers to Munnar make it a point to visit Top Station to enjoy the panoramic view it offers of the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the spots in Munnar to enjoy the Neelakurunji flowers blooming over a vast area.
Echo Point
Echo Point is another scenic place which is located 15 km from Munnar. It is on the way to Top Station. This place gets its name from the natural echo phenomenon here. It is an excellent tourism spot with panoramic views.
Anayirangal
Anayirangal, 22 km from Munnar, is a lush green carpet of tea plants. A trip on the splendid reservoir is an unforgettable experience. The Anayirangal dam is surrounded by tea plantations and evergreen forests.
