Kerala is gifted with abundant Brackish and Fresh water resources. Matsyafed is utilizing these Brackishwater to develop Fish Farms and the potential of aqua tourism in order to woo tourists. Matsyafed has taken aqua tourism initiative and has been set up Palaikari farm,Chembu near Vaikom, Kottayam.
125-acre Palaikari padasekharam was located at a distance of 22 km from Kochi and 12 km from Vaikom, held immense potential for the venture and emerged as a front runner in the promotion of aqua tourism in the Kottayam district. Designed as an aqua-tourism enterprise it combines a working fish farm with an eco-tourism experience in a way that the adventurous and unpretentious are sure to enjoy.
Palaikari farm in Kottayam district is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque places in Kerala, God’s own Country. The Palaikkari farm is famous for its lush coconut groves in the bund area and the presence of bountiful variety of fish from nearby Vembanadu lake
The scenic backwater tourism destination,it offers visitors exotic sightseeing, boating and fishing experiences. One can have a close view of the countryside, fishing activity, coconut palms lining the waters and also relish the fresh fish delicacies, which are truly mind-blowing experience.
A ride on the luxurious house boats, traditionally known as kettuvallams with all facilities like bedroom, toilet, kitchen, bathroom in an interesting one. Mainly aiming at the domestic tourists,the aqua tourism project involves a stay at the farm on a 10 am– 6pm schedule, along with a host of avenues to recharge oneself. The facility for pedal boating will also be available at a tariff of Rs 125 for adults and Rs 100 for children under 12 years of age,
The entry ticket of Rs. 200 (adults) and Rs. 100 (children) is inclusive of boating and a sumptuous lunch, topped with an ice cream, at the restaurant operated by a self-help group. If you are an angler there are fishing rods available for a very nominal rent and you are sure to hook on to fishes like the Pearl Spot, Milk Fish and some of the luckier, even a huge crab. And for those who are more interested in the fish, especially the cooked ones, the restaurant offers a mouth-watering menu of sea food delicacies and a couple of vegetarian dishes with lunch. And they will even cook the fish you caught the way you want it done.
