Malayalam Wiki Meet-up 4 at Kannur on Jun 11

Malayalam Wiki Meet-up at Kannur on Jun 11,2011 is probably the fourth get-together of Malayalam wikipedians (contributors and users) to meet up, discuss, share experiences, reach out and advocate for wikipedia and those who work with the Malayalam Wikipedia of the Wikimedia project.

The programme to be held at the Kannur District Library Council Hall will be inaugurated by B Iqbal, former VC, Kerala University. The day long workshop will also have the presence of Wikimedia Foundation representatives – Tory Reed, Bishakha Dutta and Hisham Mundol. A CD will be releasing on the occasion which contains selected articles for the Wiki library. The Malayalam community has been organising meet-ups to spread awareness of Wikipedia and explore initiatives to take the Wikipedia project forward and their reports will be presented in the event. Kannur District Library Council and the district unit of Kerala Shastra Sahithya Parishad along with some social organizations who are interested in developing the Malayalam Wikipedia ,organizes the Malayalam Wiki Meet-up 4 at Kannur .

Wikipedia, the volunteer driven, Web-based multilingual encyclopedia project, has emerged as an important reference source on the Internet for all kinds of information. “Malayalam Wikimedians are leading the Wikimedia movement in India. It reached the 17,500-article as of April,2011. Malayalam Wiki users are the first Indian Wiki community to release an offline version of the articles in the CD format. The highest number of page views is of articles relating to Kerala, technology and astronomy.
