Kochi Corporation planning to introduce a grading system for restaurants
The seizure of stale and rotten food from Kerala hotels and restaurants around Kochi is a matter of concern for the public. The heavy rain is affecting the sale of most restaurants. But instead of disposing of the food, these hotels sell stale food to customers. “Most of the eateries are not following the health regulations. They use health hazarding ingredients in food. And now, the recent raids have added to the tension and apprehension of Kochiites. How do we trust hotel or restaurant food now ?
Well, the chunk of solutions for this cause lies in the hands of the civic body.
So, the Kochi Corporation is planning to introduce a grading system for restaurants in Kochi, Kerala. As per the new system, the restaurants will be graded ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’. The criteria for grading includes quality of food served, hygiene condition of the kitchen and premises, purity of drinking water, suitability of water used for cooking and efficiency in customer service. Selecting a place to dine out will be easier with this restaurant grading system.
Health officials noted that the threat of having to hang a poor grade in the restaurant will motivate restaurant owners to keep establishments clean.
“The fact is that this grading system will do a great job for the public and industry alike.
The Health Department conducts unannounced inspections of restaurants check for compliance in food handling, food temperature, personal hygiene, quality of food etc… If no no norms are violated, the restaurant will be awarded with grade A . Grades ‘B’ and ‘C’ will be given to those making minimal violations. Any grade lower than C shows that it has violated all norms and could get a showcase notice to close down.
The best restaurants will be given certificates of recognition and the owners will be honoured by the corporation
