Kerala Sahitya Academy, Thrissur

Kerala Sahitya Academy was formed in 1956 August 15 to promote Malayalam language and literature.  It was established by the then Thiruvananthapuram – Kochi Government.  Academy was inaugurated at Kanakakunnu Palace in Thiruvananthapuram on 1956, October 15.  The headquarters was shifted to the present building near Thrissur Town Hall in 1958. 

A general council consisting of writers from different branches of  Malayalam literature controls the functions of the Kerala Sahithya Academy.

The academy concentrates on activities like the translation of great global literary works to Malayalam and Malayalam works to other languages, Literary history, various reference books, publishing books that help in the upliftment of native language and literature, conducting workshops on literature, conducting literary study camps for students and young writers, scholarships given for the upheaval of literature and many more.

The Academy has an elaborate wing for publishing and sale. The Academy has already published various literary works that are dedicated to the growth of  Malayalam language as well as the culture of  Kerala. Around four hundred books for the language research has been published by the academy. Among them the noted works published were Kerala Bhasha Ganangal – 3 series, Kerala 19th century, Interactive CD on Hereditary on Malayalam Literature, Birds of Kerala, poems, novel, short story, drama, Arabic, English, French are some of them.

The Kerala Sahithya Academy is publishing a monthly called Sahithya Chakravalam, Sahithyalokam – a bi monthly, Malayalam Literature Survey – an English Tri – monthly.  It is through the journal Sahithya Lokam information on Literary studies reach the common man.  Malayalam Literature Survey take our language to other countries and familiarise it to the world society.

Kerala Sahithya Academy has portrait gallery which depict the famous literary giants who are no more, audio library which has the voice of famous literary artists, the discs that has the age old palm – leave works and a vast auditorium are part of Academy. The Kerala Sahithya Academy has the best literary works and various Universities has the Phd research here.
