Kerala Lalithakala Academy, Thrissur
Kerala Lalithakala Academy or Kerala Academy for Fine Arts is an autonomous body which was established in 1962 November 22 to promote art and artistic heritage, based at Chembukavu in Thrissur. Though the Kerala Government provides funding and support for the academy , the administration of the academy is designed to be autonomous by its constitution.
The academy recognizes superior art works every year through its prestigious awards. The aim of the Academy is to promote the culture,painting, plastic and visual arts. In the various art galleries of the academy situated at Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kanjagad and Kottayam it exhibits various painting and sculptures of famous artists. Now the academy conducts various workshops, exhibitions and seminars by participating artists of national acclaim.
Kerala Lalithakala Academy in Thrissur is the nerve centre of artistic and cultural events and discussions in Kerala.
The master artists interact with the new upcoming artists and thus share their experiences. The first president of the academy was M Ramavarma Raja, son of famous painter Raja Ravivarma.
