Kasaragod – northernmost tip of Kerala and land of gods

The district of Kasaragod referred to as the land of rich cultural heritage where the cultural amalgamation is reflected in the forms of its temples, mosques and churches.  It is the northernmost district of Kerala and the youngest one.

The 300-year-old Bekal Fort is one of the main attractions of Kasaragod. Breathtaking backwater stretches and pristine beaches attract visitors to this district.

Kasaragod displays a variety of styles in temple architecture – the unique style of the Madhur Mahaganapathy temple, the typical Kerala style of the Historic Malik Deenar great Juma Masjid and so on speak volumes about the rich cultural heritage of the region. Spectacular pageants of Theyyam, Yakshaganam, Kumbla (buffalo race), Poorakkali, Kolkali etc. enchant visitors.

Kasargod district is one of the rare districts in India which houses as many as 7 different languages (excluding dialects and tribal languages), with each spoken by a substantial number of people.  The district of Kasaragod is popularly known as the land of Gods where pilgrimage centres are the prime attractions for those who want to take their pilgrimage holidays in Kerala.

Places of Interest in Kasaragod

Ananthapura Lake Temple – This temple is situated 30 Kms from Bekal which was built during the 9th century. Its importance lies in the fact that it is the only lake temple in Kerala.

Sree Mahalingeswara Temple – It is located about 45 Kms from Kasaragod in wooded surroundings on the southern banks of the River Payaswini dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Madhur Temple -  This temple is located at a distance of 8 Kms from Kasaragod near the Madhuvahini River.

Malik Deenar Mosque – This mosque is situated on the west coast of Kasaragod which has become the prime attraction of the tourists because of its typical Kerala style architecture. Bekal – The Bekal fort 16 kms from Kasaragod, the 300 year old .

Bekal Fort is one of the largest and best preserved forts in Kerala. This imposing circular structure of laterite rises 130 ft. Above sea level and stands on a 35 acre headland that runs into the Arabian sea. Bekal hole aqua park is about 1 km the only one of its kind in northern Kerala, this unique aqua park provides watersport facilities like pedalboats and water cycles.

Kappil Beach – Remote and secluded, this beach is fast becoming a major tourist attraction. The Kodi cliff nearby offers a panoramic view of the arabian sea.

Anandasram – 15 kms from Bekal fort, this internationally renowned spiritual centre founded by Swami Ramdas in 1939, offers a quiet, peaceful ambience best suited for meditation and spiritual studies.
