Responsible Tourism at its Best
The first tree house in Kerala is from Tour India’s eco-lodging resort called Green Magic Nature Resort. This unique Kerala Resort with tree houses, situated at Kalladi, Wayanad just a two and a half hour drive away from Calicut at an altitude of 3750-4500 feet.
Access to the tree house (60 feet above ground level) is by an indigenous cane lift worked by a unique counter weight of water system. The house is made of eco-friendly material and has double beds with attached bath, shower, carpeted veranda and sit-out, etc.
Food is prepared from farm-fresh organically grown fruits and vegetables and meals served in traditional Kerala style. Cuisine is typically north Kerala. Visitors can watch their food being prepared.
The energy source is a unique combination of solar energy, gober gas (from cow dung) and kerosene hurricane lamps, avoiding the conventional electricity and power sources.
The design of the tree house is also indigenous, local craftsmen using ethnic materials and techniques used by the early inhabitants of the region. The tribal community is closely involved with the construction and maintenance of the Nature Kerala Resort, making this a very good example of Responsible Tourism.
Visitors can choose from a number of walking trails, each promising a different adventure. The trails are carefully selected so as not to disturb the surroundings. There is a wide choice-from climbing to hiking across places of exceptional beauty, with delightful sights of indigenous flora and fauna.
