Ever since it was set up in 2000, Gorky Bhavanam or the Russian Cultural Centre in Trivandrum has become a hub of multidimensional cultural activities. In fact, the Centre is the first Honorary Consulate of any country in the state. Promotion of mutually beneficial tourism links is an important item on the Centre’s agenda. It has also set up Rus Tourism in 2009 to further both inbound and outbound tourism.

Russian Cultural Centre aims to boost the flow of visitors between Russia and India.

Gorky Bhavanam, Trivandrum has various activities like the Pushkin Institute of Russian Language offering certificate, diploma, post diploma and crash courses and the Tchaikovsky Music School offering Piano lessons with exams conducted by the London Trinity Music College. They also screen films, conduct exhibitions of paintings and photos and organize various cultural events.

Establishment of Honorary Consulate in Trivandrum is a reflection of the significance that the Russian nation attaches to Kerala. Rus Tourism which has come up within the premises of Gorkhy Bhavanam is an important landmark.

The aim is to promote Kerala in Russia and Russia in Kerala. Rus tourism will train Russian language guides to assist the Russian tourists as they usually have a language problem.

An air-conditioned auditorium, art gallery, seminar hall, library and classroom are part of a full-fledged cultural centre in the city. Accepting the request of the Russian Cultural Centre, the Corporation of Thiruvananthapuram unanimously passed a resolution to name the road adjacent to the Centre after S.Roerich.
