Ezhaatumukham Dam Near Athirappilly
Ezhaatumukham dam is one of the scenic dam sites situated in the Kumbalamudi village is built on the tranquil Chalakkudy River in Thrissur district, Kerala. It would be the place which would thrill you beyond limits. The dam and the magnificent scenery around the reservoir would just take one’s breath away. The dam also captures the scenic splendour of the river which is fringed with forests and lush greenery.
During monsoon the place is a sight to behold as the Chalakkudy River swelling with the monsoon rains and plunging down the mountain slope at enormous speed, hitting the huge boulders hard and forcing through the crevices and ravines.
The dam offers one the sight of lush plantations of oil palm, green hills, beautiful river and silent pastures. The plantations which spread across length and breadth of the catchment area are breath taking. The scenic dam and its premises have been portrayed in many Malayalam films of yesterdays.
The Kumbalamudi village, where the dam is situated has been named as nature village by District Tourism Promotion Council. The nature-friendly Kumbalamudi village is a riverside picnic spot that has been renovated with an eye on eco-tourism. The village is located between the hills of Kumbalamudi and Karapottamudi.
On their way to the famous Athirappilly waterfalls, many tourists get down at Ezhaatumukham to have a glimpse of the dancing waters.
The park with benches by the river side provides recreation to kids. The panoramic view from the hay laden gateway too is worth mentioning.
How to reach Ezhaatumukham
By Road
Those who are coming from Ernakulam and Kottayam should take a turn from Karayamparambu junction near Angamaly and travel through Mookkanur road to reach Ezhattumukham.
Tourists coming from Thrissur side should turn right after crossing the Vettilapara bridge in the Chalakudi-Anamala road to reach Ezhattumukham.
Angamaly to Ezhattumukham - 21 kms
There is no bus service beyond Vetilapara bridge which is four kms away from Ezhattumukham.
Get into the KSRTC bus from Alwaye to Athirapally, one can get down at Ezhattumukham.
