It augments accommodation facilities for more than one lakh tourists including foreigners, who arrive here every year for viewing wildlife and wildlife safari.
The bamboo eco cottages have been built in the traditional tribal way. Eco huts have been set up by Forest Department at a cost of Rs.14 lakh under the Muthanga Eco tourism project. Rs.1.75 has been spent for constructing each hut. Bamboo is the main raw material used in the construction and the aluminium roofing of the huts has been covered with wild hay. Each hut has a bedroom, a verandah and a bathroom. The tariff is Rs.3,000 a day, inclusive of vegetarian food, for a four-member team. Trenches have also been dug around the cottages to ensure the security of tourists.
The old forest Inspection Bungalow (Serambi) and elephant feeding centre have been renovated as part of the ecotourism project. The inspection Bungalow has two double rooms and it costs Rs. 400 per day for a room.
