Kerala Tourism Policy 2012 Focuses on Infrastructure and Community Development

Kerala Tourism has made concerted efforts and formulated tourism policy which aims to market in overseas and domestic markets through Mega Tourism Projects, a judicious mix of cultural, heritage, spiritual, and eco tourism in order to give tourists a holistic experience. Developing the infrastructure required for tourism is a key focus area of Kerala tourism policy 2012. Visit Kerala Initiative

Kerala Tourism recently initiated a new tourism-boosting campaign called ‘Keralam Kanaam’ in order to popularize Kerala’s destinations within Kerala. The campaign launched as part of the ‘Visit Kerala’ initiative, was kicked off by Mr.Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Tourism. Matsyafed has taken a new step towards aqua tourism promotion in the state and it is  called Milky way. Kerala Matsyafed made an aqua farm, located at Malippuram, Vypeen, and developed  a major fish-producing centre for the region and turn the fishing village into a famous aqua-tourism spot. This aqua farm is about 12 kilometres from the High Court junction and across the Goshree Bridges. It would be a nature lover’s paradise with its abundance of mangroves, fauna and flora, Serene waters,  the lagoon and narrow canals, has much to offer to the discerning guest. This farm opened its doors to public and tourists hardly a year ago and produces 25-30 kg fish everyday.

The new initiatives suggested are aiming to help developing Upliftment of fishers and aqua-farmers communities with gainful employment opportunities and capacity strengthening. This aqua farm is established to showcase & promote the aquatic culture of the state. Milky way project helps to educate local tourists as well as foreign tourists on harvesting and cultivation of fish,demand and supply of fish.

The entry ticket of Rs. 150 (adults) and Rs. 100 (children) is inclusive of boating and a lunch at the restaurant operated by a self-help group . The aqua farm is a perfect getaway for one day picnic.
