Wayanad Monsoon Carnival Splash 2013

Wayanad Monsoon Carnival Splash 2013, which is to promote rain tourism, will be organized in Wayanad district of Kerala, Southern India from 12th to 14th July 2013. It is the fifth edition of the Wayanad Splash. The main aim of the Wayanad Monsoon Carnival 2013 is to bring the attention of the global travelers to the evergreen monsoon rains in the beauty spot of Kerala, Wayanad. The carnival presents an unique opportunity to experience monsoon like never before in Wayanad, the epitome of lush green beauty. The carnival is organized by the Wayanad Tourism Organization and Tourism department of Kerala.

It is an exceptional opportunity to enjoy the heavenly monsoon season in the lap of nature in Wayanad, the land known for its pristine beauty. You should embrace the monsoon season and play along with the falling raindrops, if you want to enjoy the monsoon season in Kerala. This once in a life opportunity is provided to the monsoon enthusiasts all over the world by the Wayanad Monsoon Carnival 2013.

The event marks a plethora of outdoor and indoor activities. There will be cultural performances, singing, music, dance, magic, rafting, rock climbing, trekking, crab catching, mud football, and archery. A food court serving delicious Kerala food is a main highlight of the Wayanad Monsoon Carnival Splash 2013. There will be stalls selling local handicrafts, curios and spices to the discerning traveller.

The earlier seasons of Wayanad Splash 2013 has been successful in attracting tourists in hoards to Wayanad in the otherwise dull monsoon season. Tourists, travel agents, travel writers, tour operators, destination connoisseurs, rain lovers etc. will visit Wayanad during the Wayanad Monsoon Carnival 2013. The B2B session of the event will be inaugurated by the honourable chief minister of Kerala, Shri. Ommen Chandy.

The various programs organized during the Wayanad Monsoon Carnival 2013 are as follows: Njaru Nadal, rafting, mud football, vadam vali, kabadi, treasure hunt, jack fruit fest, archery for adults, elephant safari etc. A variety of music programs and folk art of Kerala are organized ranging from jazz, bassanova, Mexican piano, Cuban calypso, reggae music, hard rock, Theyyam, Pooram etc.

Kerala Carnival 2013

Kerala Carnival 2013 is a colourful arts festival organized by Incredible India and Carnival group that is to be staged near Kaloor International Stadium, Cochin on 13th and 14th April 2013. Carnival will kick start with a cultural parade of the indigenous art forms of Kerala on Saturday 13th April at 4pm. The parade will start from Palarivattom, Cochin. Union Minister Mr. K.V.Thomas will inaugurate the Kerala Carnival 2013.

The main art programs on the inaugural day will include the dance of the Cine star Shobana, the performance of Dj Harsh Bhutani, the robotics dance by Robo Ganesh, a musical extravaganza by M.G. Sreekumar, Manjari, Rajalakshmi, Sudheep and dance performed by Cine stars Priyamani, Roma and Manikuttan.

On the second day of the festival which falls on Sunday April 14th the arts night will start with the performance by the drums maestro Shivamani. It will be followed by dance performance of the Fictitious group from Bollywood with Cine stars Remya Nambeesan and Aparna Nair. One of the great attractions of the Kerala Carnival 2013 is a musical feast known as Ecstasy which is submitted to the world of music. This musical feast is organized by the music directors Gopi Sundar, Rahul Raj and Alphonse. Prominent performers like Stephen Devassy, Sithara, Jyotsana, Gayatri, Madhu Balakrishnan, and Mohammad Azeez will form a part of the musical extravaganza. The show is designed and staged by the film directors G. S. Vijayan, Jose Thomas under the leadership of the director B. Unnikrishnan.

Carnival Group C.E.O P.V. Sunil states that the group has plans to organize similar carnivals in various parts of the country. Following the first multiplex in Angamaly, the group has also plans to start twenty two screens in various parts of Kerala. Towards the end of this year, five screens will start functioning in Kollam. The other screens will start near Infopark, Kochi, Trissur, Kodungallur, Kozhikode, Kannur and Trivandrum. All the screens will start functioning from the middle of next year. There are also plans to start Food courts. The largest theme based food court in Kerala will start its function from next month in Kakkanad near Infopark.

Entrance to the Kerala carnival 2013 is free. If you wish to participate in Heli taxi and hot air balloon in the Kerala Carnival 2013, then you need to book in advance. The rate for Kerala Heli Taxi is Rs.2, 500 and for the hot air balloon is Rs.650.

Kerala Wild Life Photography Workshop

Kerala Wild Life Photography Workshop is an informative and creative workshop with Sudhir Shivaram that is to be held at Cardamom County Resort in Thekkady Kerala from 10th May to 13th May 2013. The event is organized by Pixetra Club in association with Raxa Collective and SaevUs.

Before the Kerala Wild Life Photography Workshop

A couple of things are to be done by the photography aspirants and professionals before the Kerala Wild Life Photography Workshop. The participants who has registered for the workshop should submit their portfolio of workshop to Sudhir Shivaram. The portfolio will be reviewed by Sudhir to get an idea about the experience of the participants and to detect the areas for improvement. Sudhir will contact each participant or a small group of participants in a one to one session using Skype or Google hangout to provide inputs about the portfolio. Each participant will be provided a basic knowledge on the fundamentals of photography so that they could come up with good images during the workshop.

During the Kerala Wild Life Photography Workshop

Participants are advised to reach the resort by 10th of May Friday during afternoon. A brief introduction will be done on the overall plan of the two day workshop and tips and tricks about Bird Photography will be shared with the participants. The next two days will be field outing. On the first day itself all the participants will be brought to a specific standard so that they can implement the knowledge and expertise in the next two days.

During the hands on field outing knowledge will be shared on areas of improvement to the participants by Sudhir Shivaram. Images will be reviewed and feedback will be provided during intervals of the outing. On Saturday morning, an in-depth interaction session will be conducted. More knowledge and information will be shared on bird photography.

Nishagandhi Festival 2013

Nishagandhi Festival 2013, as we know it today in Tiruvananthapuram, was once upon a time a winter cultural programme conducted in Kovalam. It was held on weekends for six months! Down the years the venue changed to Nishagandhi-an open air auditorium in Kanakakunnu Palace-gradually reducing to a week-long music and dance festival, organised by the tourism department of Kerala featuring renowned artistes like Pankaj Udhas, Talat Aziz, Zakir Hussain, Padma Subrahmanyam, Alamel Valli and TV Sankaranarayanam.

It’s that time of the year once again. Prashant TV is coordinating the event for 2013. The inaugural day-January 20-had a special choreography ‘Naman’ by Jayaprabha Menon and group, a blend of five styles of dance-including Mohiniyattam, Kathak, Odissi, Bharatanatyam and Manipuri. Yesteryear actor Parvathy also performed. ‘It’s a great opportunity for a beginner like me. I started performing classical dance seriously only two years ago. As soon as I was asked to perform at Nishagandhi,I happily agreed.

K.Krishnakumar, who performs with wife Binni, has composed songs exclusively for the fest. “Music The Flower, and ‘Song and Rhythm’, “he names them. “The show is called ‘Styles Amalgamated’ and there will be a fusion with Deepak Dev,  Rakesh Chaurasia, nephew of Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia) will be on flute, Ustad Fazal Qureshi on tabla, Tiruvarur Vaidyanathan on Mridangam and so on.”

Bharatanatyam dancer Urmila Sathyanarayan is scheduled to perform too and says she is eagerly looking forward to it. “Kerala is my favourite place both to perform and for holidays. And Thiruvananthapuram is even more special because I am an ardent devotee of Sreepadmanabha Swamy”.

Cochin Carnival 2013

Cochin Carnival happens on the last week of December every year. Mostly the carnival is held during the last 10 days of the year and concludes with a big celebration marking the New Year. The venue of the carnival is Fort Kochi and the whole Kochi eagerly waits for it every year. Cochin Carnival is renowned for its public celebration, parades and parties giving wholesome entertainment to tourists from within the country and abroad. It attracts tourists and is a crowd-puller.

As usual, this year also Cochin Carnival was held from December 9th to 31st at Fort Kochi. The much acclaimed carnival rally will be held on January 1, 2013 and was the 29th edition of the Carnival.

History of Cochin Carnival
The Carnival got its origin in the 16th century, when the Portuguese ruled the region. At that time Cochin was the headquarters of Portuguese rule in India. Portuguese started the festival as part of the celebration to welcome the New Year. And it is said that the Portuguese ruler’s New Year celebrations were rich with grand fiestas and parties. This celebration continued and the city made it their own and it got imbibed as part of the local culture. And later by the year 1984 the celebration received the title of Cochin Carnival.

Celebrations
At present Cochin Carnival is a grand celebration of culture and tradition of both past and present. An amalgamation of different culture are in found in the place which includes Portuguese, Dutch, Guajarati, Konkani, Malayalee, Andhra, Kannada, Tamil, Arab, Punjabi and Anglo Indian culture. The prime aim of the Cochin Carnival is to promote and maintain five principles primarily of peace, progress, environment, participation and adventure.

Fort Kochi embellishes a festive look during this carnival. People numbering in hundreds flock at the venue clad in exotic colored attires to participate in this carnival of merry making and feasting and loads of entertainment. People have opportunity to participate in several games like KalamVara (floor drawing), tug-of-war, bicycle races, swimming in sea, beach volleyball which are also major attractions during the carnival celebrations. Adding more to the charm there are Art shows, food festivals, colorful rallies and fairs. All these festivities and revelries continue till midnight of December 31st. Finally at the concluding day of the 10 day festival, the entire city is clad in white with all buildings wearing white paper buntings. The white adornment signifies peace and tranquility. There are also many impromptu competitions and celebrations which are held on the streets and fireworks mark the finale. During the New Year’s Day, there is a procession consisting of caparisoned elephants, accompanied by drums and music, colorful flats, different folk art forms, Panchavadyam etc and this procession marks the end of the celebrations.

GKSF road show flagged off from Delhi

According to the schedule, campaign vehicle will cover eight Indian Cities in two weeks.

According to the initiative of popularizing Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF) in the domestic market, Kerala Tourism flagged off their national campaign from Delhi that would cover eight major cities in the country in the coming two weeks to conclude at Kannur in Kerala on December 15, where the official inaugural of the 48-day mega shopping fiesta is scheduled. It was flagged off by Vayalar Ravi, Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India, and A P Anil Kumar, Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Castes & Backward Classes and Tourism, Government of Kerala, along with the prominent presence of Union Ministers and Members of Parliament from Kerala. Kochi International Fashion week 2012 in April

Kochi is gearing up to be the host of the Kochi International Fashion week 2012 in this April — creating history of sorts! The city will host its hottest and second edition of International fashion week and the auditions for which have already begun.

The fashion culture of the city has certainly changed. Over the past few years Kochi has hosted string of top-notch fashion shows.

Around 16 designers including Archana Kochhar, Sanjana Jon, James Ferreira, Mona Pali, Aruna Singh, Riyaz Gangji, Hari Anand, Vivek Karunakaran, Megha Grover, Jules Idi Amin and Ankita Choudhary were present with their collections at the International Fashion week 2011.

The organisers are keen to make the event, which will be held between April 4 and April 8, bigger and better.

A dozen leading fashion designers will show their creations over three days, according to an official at the Executive Events which along with the Storm Fashion Company is organising this show.

Celebrated actress and singer Mamta Mohandas signed as the brand ambassador for KIFW 2011 .The venue will include a Collection Show Area, a Media Centre, a dedicated Buyer’s Lounge, a Sponsor Zone and a VIP Hospitality Lounge.

Kochi International Fashion Week 2011 is produced by Storm fashion company, In association with Kingfisher, Lawman PG3. The national press, fashion buyers and reps from boutiques, specialty stores and major department stores are being invited to attend.
