Beypore Kerala Handicraft village
Kerala Handicraft tourism heritage villages will be set up at Beypore which is famous for making dhows(‘uru or Arabian trading vessel). The village will be set up by the Beypore Development Mission with the help of State Industries Department. The idea is to promote this craft village in association with Kerala Tourism so that more international tourists are attracted to Beypore.

Even today, Urus are being manufactured in this centuries-old Uru-making centre. In addition to this, handicraft experts here are famous for their skill in carving models of the dhow, a favourite souvenir for Kerala tourists who visit the place. Various models of dhows carved from wood and coconut shells are also available in the handicrafts shops of Beypore.
The objective of the handicraft village is to bring together the craftsmen engaged in various cottage industries in Beypore for several years. The first phase of the project will involve a survey to collect information about the traditional uru-makers. The handicrafts village will be spread out in clusters over a stretch of 15 km. A separate emporium will also be set up to facilitate the display and sale of finished products.
The Kadalundi bird watching centre and the newly started ‘jangar’ service are other attractions which will enhance the flow of tourists to the place and effectively utilize the tourism potential of the islets dotting the Chaliyar and Kadalundi rivers. The handicraft tourism heritage villages is slated be a feather in the cap of the tourism industry of Kozhikode.
