Ayurveda and Kerala Tourism
Ayurveda is one of Kerala tourism’s major USPs (unique selling product). Kerala as God’s own country has found its place on the international tourism map as a lush green, serene and stunningly beautiful land. An amenable climate, hospitable and friendly people and good living conditions attracts every traveler to come for a Kerala travel in India. Kerala is the pioneer in propagating and preserving authentic Ayurveda. Many Ayurvedic procedures and techniques originated in Kerala.
Over the years, sages and learned physicians evolved and improved on Ayurvedic techniques and treatment for various ailments. Further, Ayurveda became well known for rejuvenation programmes, beauty care and body care therapies, etc. In fact, even today, there are families in Kerala that have been involved in propounding Ayurveda through the ages and the wealth of their knowledge is handed down from generation to generation.
Kerala is often called the ‘Gateway to Ayurveda’ and people from all over the world throng to Kerala in India to get the best. Ayurvedia therapies and treatments that are unique to Kerala include Njavarakizhi, Pizhichil, Uzhichil, Kizhi, Elakizhi, Choornakizhi, Dhara etc . Kerala has also the ideal environment to train in meditation and Yoga which have proved to be the best ways to gain physical power and mental peace.
The Ayurveda tourism boom has led to the growth of Ayurvedic resorts, spas, massaging centres, hospitals and clinics all over the state. The two types of standard certifications awarded by the Government authorities for Ayurveda centres based on the services and facilities, the expertise of physicians etc. The Ayurvedic centre standardizations are Green Leaf and Olive Leaf. It is no surprise that Kerala abounds in institutions and Ayurveda colleges which offer comprehensive courses covering the various aspects of Ayurveda.
