Arippa is situated 52 km northeast of  Thiruvananthapuram city along the Thiruvananthapuram-Shencottai State Highway (SH – 2). Unexplored, less travelled path towards Arippa forest ,gives unseen visuals and unheard sounds. The forest span over 1000 hectares. You must stay a night in the silent forest environment, sweet slumber and you will be waken up in the morning by the sounds of the chirping birds.

Basically, known for  Forest officers Training  Centre and forest department plantation, Arippa is now famous as an calm and peaceful Kerala ecotourism destination. Forested highlands of Western ghats surround Arippa, which is home to diverse flora and fauna. It is a paradise for nature lovers as well as bird watchers.

Accommodation is arranged by KFDC ( Kerala Forest Development Corporation ) at Jyothismathy, the beautiful KFDC Inspection Bungalow, built in 1981 with three double rooms.

The ecotourism packages here include short treks to Ammayambalam Pacha or long treks to Idukkampara , bird/wildlife spotting and visit to the nearby tribal settlements . Local tribals serve as guides and accompany throughout journey. If you walk 4 kms from KFDC bunglow, Myristica Swamp can be seen which are of great enviornmental significance. Myristica swamps has been found first in 1960 at these evergreen forests of westernghats.
